Practicing the entire winter, spending countless of hours on the ice, perfecting your turns and practicing the start. Everything in order to put your name on that coveted title: club champion of ESSV Alcedo.
Last Saturday, 4 March, the time came. With many thanks to the skating association of Zoetermeer, our club championships were held at the Uithof in The Hague. The evening went very smooth. Around 20:00 the first quartet stood at the start. Starting with the 500m, both our experienced as well as many new members did their absolute best. Whether your goal was to conquer a spot on that podium or to set/improve your PR: everyone was evenly excited! When everyone skated the 500m, the results could go either way. This meant that everyone stood evenly tensed at the start of the next match: the 1000m. After a couple of rides it became clear: the new club champions of 2017 were a fact! For the women, Monica had fought and earned the first spot and for the men the first place went to Patrick S! A great second place went to Deborah and Timon and the third place went to Demi and Jeroen.
With a beer or a hot choco afterwards, we wrapped up another great en unforgettable evening! With a lot of motivation we can now start our last month on the ice for this season and continue with perfectioning our skating skills during the dry-practice.
