It’s August again, a new year of studying is coming, and that means that there will also be a new Eurekaweek! Together we will make it a great one. The first successful day has already taken place, today at the sport market at the Excelsior stadion. Tomorrow you can find us at the information market and thursday you can find us at the festival.
Maybe you have met us at one of those days, but are still left with some questions. That’s why we have summerized some important information regarding becoming a member below.
Introductory training for new/potential members:
It could be the case that you are not sure yet if speedskating, or cycling, is really your thing. No worries. It is possible to come to one of our introductory trainingsessions for free. Here you can experience how it would really be to be a member at Alcedo.
On Thursday September the 1st, we welcome you to join us on our dry-trainingsession at the Esch. On Monday September the 5th, you can join us for a cycling training. Once the speedskating season has started, we will also arrange a introductory traning for on the ice, but we will keep you posted on the exact date for this!
Training:
In Oktober de speedskating season starts. At this point, you can find Alcedo speedskating on the rinks in Dordrecht of Den Haag, where we travel to jointly. In December the tunnel in Rotterdam opens, which mean we can speedskate for three months practically around the corner! In the months March and April, this rink will be closed again, which means we will continue speedskating in Dordrecht en Den Haag. Our training hours are every Monday from 7:00 pm and Thursday from 08:45 PM.
Would you rather cycle with us? That is also not a problem! We practice during the summer on Mondays at 7:00 PM. Our starting point is the Irene bridge.
Prices:
A membership for the entire year at Alcedo costs 25 euros. Because Alcedo is a student association, hence being part of Erasmus Sport, you have to possess a sports card. We call this the Alcedo card, which also costs 25 euros. With this card, you are however not able to use any other sport facilities on campus. If you want this, then you can purchase a Erasmus card for 109 euros a year, of 159 a year including fitness. If you have any of these two cards, you don’t have to purchase an Alcedo card, so a membership at Alcedo will only cost you 25 euros.
Alongside the membership and the sport card, it is important to keep in mind that the ice rinks where we skate have their own entrance prices. Together with the icerink of Rotterdam, we came up with a great deal for our members. All members of Alcedo can purchase an entrance card with which you can enter the rink 20 times (the amount of times we have practice at the rink in a season), for the total amount of 44 euros. This means 2,20 euros per visit instead of 5,50!
Activities:
Besides the practices in both summer and winter, we also arrange many other fun stuff to do! Every three weeks, we have a drink at Café De Stoep, ever summer we have a BBQ and we travel to the place where the summer ice is. In the winter we also have enough fun nights with where we eat together, like the stew-night, and we have our own famous ‘elfkroegentocht’, which is a pubcrawl where we visit 11 pubs in one night!
